Services

Talk Shows

Ocean City Radio encourages and actively promotes diversity of thought. We provide a radio service that seeks to keep its listeners informed of what’s going on locally and to have a vocal presence in those activities. Our schedule incorporates shows that feature guest interviews with both prominent people from the worlds of politics, medicine and the media through to community organisation leaders and charitable projects. Our programming actively encourages listeners to partake in on-air discussion and our new facilities have made way for inviting the people of Plymouth into the studio to be part of debate on issues that matter to them.

Support

We provide local radio for local people and work alongside other community organisations by supporting and promoting their causes. Ocean City Radio supports people from every corner of the community through its diverse range of programming. We have developed an educational track for students and adult volunteers to learn broadcast journalism, multimedia, business management, computer skills, administrative and related skills.

Outside Broadcasts

We reach out to the community, by visiting local schools, businesses and special events. We often broadcast LIVE from outside venues and offer edited recordings where it is more appropriate. The local community is invited to request the attendance of our radio station at public occasions and seeks to assist in the promotion of them.

Not For Profit

Ocean City Radio is a “community interest company” and as such is “not for profit”. Our overheads are met by minor advertising and sponsorship. In addition our volunteers pay a monthly subscription to meet the excess. So, its fair to say that our team take their roles very seriously and are incredibly committed to our mission. We have also received small grants from the likes of The Lottery Fund and similar funders.

Music

What is a station without music! Our volunteers have a wide range of musical interests. We cater for almost all tastes and regularly survey our listeners to keep abreast of their musical needs. Provision is made for lovers of music from the forties and fifties through to current chart and everything in-between.

Special Events

Plymouth is a vibrant city that hosts a plethora of events all year round. Whether it be the Great Britain Sailing Grand Prix, the British Fireworks Championships, the Rum & Vodka Festival or 1 Big Summer, Ocean City Radio will be there to transfer the atmosphere to you at home. To support our diversity programme, we will be attending The Rehabilitation Triathlon hosted by the Royal Marines (23 June) which will take place in the city for the first time, with outstanding athletes – Paralympians and Invictus Games competitors among them. We also organise and present our own events and activities when the environment allows it. Last summer (against all the Covid odds) we organised fun-days at both Oak Villa and Elburton Villa Football Clubs. Monies raised were used to finance improvements to the service we provide and in turn meet our endeavors to serve the community better.
